The Distracting Sumatran Rhino


The Sumatran Rhino roams the Indonesian jungle, its existence barely audible among the trees. With fewer than 80 individuals remaining, this species is one of the most endangered in the world.  Habitat loss and poaching have pushed the Sumatran Rhino to the brink of extinction, leaving conservationists racing against time to save this majestic creature.

 The Amur Leopard hunts in the Russian Far East and northeast China, where its population has dropped to less than 70 individuals.  In the Gulf of California, the Vaquita swims, its existence a mere blip on the radar.  With fewer than 20 individuals remaining, this species is critically endangered, its habitat threatened by fishing nets and human activity.  The Vaquita is a stark reminder of the impact of human neglect on the natural world.

 4.  The Javan Rhino: A Rare Gem

 The Javan rhino roams the Ujung Kulon National Park in Indonesia, where its population has dropped to fewer than 60 individuals. This species is one of the rarest animals in the world, its habitat threatened by poaching and human encroachment.  Despite ongoing conservation efforts, the Javan rhino remains critically endangered.


 5.  The Northern White Rhino: A Last Stand

 In captivity, two Northern White Rhinos remain, their existence a poignant reminder of the impact of poaching and habitat loss.  This subspecies is functionally extinct, its last male individual having passed away in 2018.  The Northern White Rhino is a stark reminder of the consequences of human neglect.

In the North Atlantic, the Right Whale swims, its existence threatened by entanglement in fishing gear and ship strikes.  With fewer than 450 individuals remaining, this species is critically endangered, its numbers dwindling due to human activity.  Conservation efforts are underway, but the North Atlantic Right Whale remains a vulnerable species.
